Comparison of Bug Dynamics Under Closed Source and Open Source

Open source software development has emerged as a viable approach for the construction of robust, scalable, secure software in contrast to the the traditional hierarchical, closed source model of commercial software development. Building on existing research in open source development and software engineering, we systematically compare the performace of the two approaches by modelling the processes of software construction under each and performing discrete event simulation experiments. The results of the study can contribute to a greater understanding of the dynamics of software evolution and help enhance the effectiveness of software development processes.
